1. Education only

iPsychology publishes general educational information about psychology, mental health, therapy and related topics. It is intended to inform and explain. Nothing on the site is medical, psychological, clinical, legal or other professional advice for any individual or situation.

Our content is not a substitute for diagnosis, treatment or advice from a qualified professional. Never ignore professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read here. Decisions about diagnosis, therapy or medication should be made with a licensed professional who can consider your circumstances.

2. No clinician-patient relationship

Reading the site, or contacting us, does not create a doctor-patient, therapist-client or any other professional relationship. We cannot respond to questions about personal symptoms, diagnoses or treatment. If you are worried about your mental health, please speak with a doctor or licensed mental health professional. Our guide on how to find a therapist explains where to start.

3. Emergencies

iPsychology is not a crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger or thinking about suicide:

  • Call your local emergency number.
  • In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
  • In the UK and Ireland, call Samaritans on 116 123.
  • Elsewhere, see our crisis resources page for helplines in other countries.

4. Accuracy and limits

We work to keep content accurate and up to date, based on peer-reviewed research, textbooks and guidance from recognized health and professional bodies (see our editorial standards). However, psychology and medicine change over time, research findings can be uncertain or disputed, and errors can occur. We make no guarantee that every page is complete, current or error-free. Research findings describe groups of people and may not apply to any particular individual. If you spot a mistake, please tell us through our contact page.

5. Therapies, tests and self-help

Descriptions of therapies, psychological tests and wellbeing techniques explain what they are and what research says about them in general. They are not recommendations for any individual. Online quizzes or screening tools mentioned on the site cannot diagnose a condition. Persistent or severe difficulties warrant support from a qualified professional.

We link to external sources such as research papers, health organizations and professional bodies for reference. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices. A link does not imply endorsement.

7. Advertising

The site is supported by advertising served by Mediavine and its partners. Advertisements are not endorsed by iPsychology, and advertisers have no influence on our content. See our privacy policy and cookie policy for how advertising uses data.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, iPsychology is not liable for any loss or harm arising from the use of, or reliance on, information on this site. See our terms of use for details.
